Season Recaps
Season 1:
The story revolves around the mother and widowed Nancy Botwin. Her husband Judah collapsed and died of a heart attack, whilst he was jogging with Shane, his son. Nancy needs to support herself and her two sons, Silas and Shane.
Nancy begins dealing marijuana with her neighbours. A big L.A. dealer called Heylia James is her supplier. She purchases a bakery to cover up her drug trade. Silas begins to date an attractive deaf girl at school named Megan.
Nancy becomes friendly with a manipulative woman called Celia Hodes, she is president of the schools PTA. Nearing the end of Season 1, Celia is diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer.
Nancy expands her drug trade business and sells to Valley College. At the college, her stash is taken by campus police. With the help of persuation from Conrad and his friends, they get it back and return it to Nancy. Conrad convinces Nancy to expand her busy, to not only deal marijuana but also sell it. She then gets close to the dad of the boy who Shane bit. Things get complicated when she walks into his bathroom to find a badge, it appears he is an agent in a Federal Drugs Enforcement Agency.
Season 2:
In season two Nancy becomes more involved with the drugs underground. Nancy pairs up with Conrad and starts growing marijuana and soon rents a grow-house. Brother-in-laws Andy and Doug are recruited into the family business. Peter, the dad of the boy who Shane bit, marries Nancy. He knows Nancy deals drugs but won't arrest her as he thinks her selling is too small. Whilst her rivals are getting arrested, her marriage to Peter keeps her from getting arrested herself. Peter puts Nancy under pressure by trying to get her to stop dealing drugs.
The season finishes with many twists. Peter steals the drug money from Nancy and Conrad's last "harvest". Heyliar hires mobsters to kill Peter. U-Turn, Nancy's buyer, holds her up at gunpoint and wants all of the marijuana crop. The mobsters arrive at the scene expecting money for what they had done to Peter, from the money Nancy would have got from her sale. She tells the mobsters that the buyer jacked all of her marijuana. She finds out that Silas is the one who has the weed, demanding he won't give it back until he is enrolled into the business. The last scene and cliffhanger to Season 2 is at Nancy's grow-house. In a typical Mexican showdown, both the gangsters and mobsters are pointing guns at Nancy.
Season 3:
Nancy works for U-Turn to pay off her debt. Conrad and Heylia start their own growing production. U-Turn trains Nancy on how to drug run at the same time as starting a war with other rivals. U-Turn suffers a heart attack and his jealous partner Marvin grabs his chance to become leader of the crew by suffocating U-Turn.
With U-Turn killed, Nancy is free of any debt. Nancy turns to the leader of the Mexican drug dealers to protect her after she refuses to sell low quality marijuana from the bikers. The leader of the Mexican gang has a solution. He burns down the bikers house, but with it causes a huge fire. At the end of the season finale, Nancy pours gasoline all over her house and then uses a match to burn the house down.
Season 4:
After burning her house down in the finale of Season 3, she relocates her family to a town on the San Diego/Tijuana border. She works for the Mexican gang and is now drug trafficking for Guilermo, the leader of the gang. He sets up her with a money laundering front by setting up a store which sells maternity items. Celia works there as a cashier but is soon spotted to be spying on Guilhermo's gang. Nancy persuades Guilhermo not to kill Celia and he doesn't. Nancy reports the business to a DEA captain when she finds out it's not only drugs in the business but guns and prostitution. The DEA raid the store and blood is shed when there is a shootout.
Celia develops a drug habit. Nancy gets called into the DEA for questioning. Nancy is pregnant by Esteban, the corrupt mayor of Tijuana.
